I will be focusing on the first scenario given to us which is about promoting Laswap sixth form. The video will consist of reasons for why young people should be apart of the sixth form. Our client will be Mr Quirke who is the director of the sixth form at Acland Burghley School. In the video I will be mentioning all the positive aspects of the sixth form to help promote it. The clip will consist of photos of the sixth form as well as brief interviews with staff members and students at the sixth form to provide first hand opinions on what they think of the sixth form. The whole purpose of the video is to promote and inform parents and students about the sixth form. Analysing the brief I will also be focusing on legal and ethical, regulatory, amendments to final project, budgets, conditions and fees. These are all the points I will be focusing on from the brief given.
Constraints (legal, ethical, regulatory)
From the project brief there are different aspects which I will have to take in for consideration before I start to film the corporate video to make sure the video meets the clients needs and requirements for the video.
Some of the legal constraints that will be relevant in the corporate video are; copyright of a song or brand that might feature in the video, If I would want to use a song from an artist I would have to make sure I have permission to use the song as it was created by them, ways I can do this is by creating an email/letter asking if I can use the song and what might be the reason why I am using it. Another legal constraint is making sure I have permission to interview and film in the school environment with the students and staff involved, if any of the students are under the age of 18 I would need to ask permission from their legal gaurdians by having them sign a legal document allowing them to be filmed and be involved in the corporate video. I will be creating a risk assessment for the health and safety of the cast and crew who will be involved in the making of the corporate video. By performing the risk assessment it will allow us to be aware of any of the risks and hazards that can occur when filming and find ways in how we can prevent these risks.
Some of the ethical constraints I will address when filming is to make sure the content of the video is not seen to anyone involved and the viewers as offensive by how I might approach people or portray a location in the video.
Looking at the regulatory constraints of a corporate video, I have analysed into the companies ASA and Ofcom which create codes and conventions for all sources of media and what can be shown in their content and what cant be shown to the public. If the client is satisfied with the corporate video created, I would then have to make sure the corporate video fits well with the requirements of the codes and conventions ASA and Ofcom are asking for, this might consist of focusing on any copyright issues, making sure the message as well as the information we are conveying to the viewers about the college are truthful facts and finally making sure the corporate video does not consist of any footage that might be offensive or distressing to the audience of the video.
Budget; (amendments to budget and conditions):
From the brief I, I will be conducting my own research on the sixth form and what my budget would need to be in order to create the video. Looking into the research I have realised that creating this video does not require a budget at all, as I have access to the schools in the sixth form, I also don't need to worry about providing a cost to travel to the other schools as they are all walking distance and lastly I have access to all equipment I would need to film which will be provided by the media department at Acland Burghley. I will not also need to pay for anyone to be in the video as students I will be using are volunteered students from the schools. From the research I have gathered I will share the information I have gathered with the client and discuss the what they want for the video and build an understanding on what is expected for the video, also we will discuss the research I have gathered about the video as well as talk about the budget and what the client might think of it.
Conditions:
As I have not been in contact with my client yet to arrange a meeting and discuss the different conditions of the project that the client might be asking for. As soon as the meeting is arranged and scheduled we will be discussing the different aspects of the project for example if any changes or anything added on to the filming to meet the clients requirements. In the meeting we will also be discussing the regulations of the video and where might the client want the final edit to be aired.
Project:
Once I have discussed the brief with my client and what they would want for the corporate video as well as what I can provide myself, I would be able to create a schedule for myself and the client, the schedule consist of a production time as well as a finished date for the corporate video. In discussion with the client I will ask them a few specific questions such as who they would like to have in the video and anything they would like to add into the video as an extra. I would have to be prepared and organised as well as ahed of timing as I would need to have the video ready by the deadline created. I will also be pitching a few ideas to the client in order to make the corporate video the best possible video, some of the ideas I will be presenting are; Filming students/staff about the sixth form and their experiences and opinions in the college as well as shots of the college and its facilities provided.
