Task 1 - BBC Art of the interview podcast/ introduction to guide

From listening to the podcast, there was a range of points made about what would make a good interview, from this the main three points that stood out the most are:
How you approach an interview being an interviewer; Being an interviewer your main priority is to have a plan of the interview before hand, for example making sure you know what the interview is about and what kind of questions you would like to ask your interviewee. In addition to this point you always have to be prepared to go off script during the interview, the reason for this is the interviewee can answer your question but also talk about something else whilst answering the question and you might want to elaborate on that rather than following your script. Lastly another technique that is used in  an interview is the rule of 3, this allows you to ask the same question repeatedly to receive the answer you want an example of this is you asking the question the first time round, you then ask the question a second time and lastly you ask the same question again so they know that is the question you want answered.
From the interview, they also talk about ways in conducting a good hard talk interview, the approach is slightly different to a casual interview. As hard talk interviews are mainly about world news with a politician, hard talk interviews are more stern and serious, the reason for this is to show the audience and the interviewee that the interview has to be taken seriously as it is a political and informational interview. With this style interview you being the interviewer need to know what your doing and be very clear when asking relevant questions to the interviewee. Another relevant point for a hard talk interview is to make sure you start with a hard question first, this shows the audience and the interviewee that you being an interviewer have control over the interview as you want to get straight to the point with the questions you ask.

Introduction
This guide will allow you to understand as well as be very familiar with the different interview types.  The guide will give you information on a range of interview styles and purpose of interview it is for as well as the techniques that might be used for a specific interview or overall all interviews. Different interview styles are entertainment, emotional, informational, political, promotional etc. With these different styles they can sometimes overlap together in an interview, this is usually depending on the interviewer. The main point of an interview to gain some information on the interviewee no matter what the interview style is, however this can be done in different ways depending on the style of the interview. You can gain a great deal of information from the interviewee as your talking to them on a personal level as well as making them feel very comfortable which allows them to open up to you in the interview. An example of a different style for an interview is for entertainment a celebrity would be interviewed to talk about there personal life as well as promotional aspects such as promoting themselves or their album/film etc. This is completely different to a hard talk interview, this interview is usually with a politician which would be very informational and political for example Boris Johnson.
