Task 7- Sources of information in advertising

There are a range of ways in which clients and agencies can gather there information for an advertisement industry, some of these ways can consist of gathering information from existing adverts that have been created for the same product, existing adverts that have been very successful in the past as well as gathering information from the public to see there views and how they feel about a certain advert as well as what would attract them to the product etc, this gives an idea on what there, focus needs to be when creating the advert. As I have mentioned the industry gather information from the public to get there point of views on the adverts that have been released, the companies create questionnaires that relate to the advert. This is a benefit to the company as they get the research they need in order for there advert to be successful as well as creating a higher income for themselves as they would know that the audience they are aiming at are attracted to the product and would want to buy it. A site that provides all the information on television viewing and ratings is BARB website, this provides information  of all different channels and programmes. This is a very useful and helpful site as it provides the audience information about the channel of there choice.

A programme profile provides information about the a broadcasting company of there choice, this helps the advertisers choose the right company to advertise there adverts with, in addition to this they also focus on the type of target audience the broadcasting company is aiming at, by this it would help them by knowing if there specific advert is right for the type of audience that views a certain broadcasting company.

Here is an example of the type of adverts that are viewed on E4 at certain times.  In this screen shot it explains in detail the type of target audience they are aiming at as well as the characteristics. in addition to this it also talks about the type of shows that are viewed on the channel, also they are showing the advertising company the benefits of advertising with this certain channel. underneath all that information they also included a table with the different times and the type of adverts that are viewed within the certain times, this is also a way to give the advertisers a clear view of where and when there advert should be aired as well as there competitors that they might have with other advertisers.

Here is a rate card showing the prices for different spaces in which the advert can be placed before or after a programme. The prices are very different depending the time the advertisers would want to slot there advert in.
